SLC STORY

OUR HISTORY

In 1985 a small group of Christ-followers had a vision for a new Evangelical Church in the greater Elkhorn area. They put feet to their prayers and Southern Lakes Church held its first service at Sugar Creek Town Hall on Nov. 3, 1985. The church was officially incorporated on Feb. 23, 1986 with 17 Charter Members.

By 1989 SLC outgrew the town hall and moved to Lakeland School in Elkhorn. It was at that time the church was also able to secure a 10-acre property on Hwy 12/67 as the future home for the church. Ten years later, in 1999, the church broke ground on their new building. The congregation was highly motivated and "hands-on" as they worked on every aspect of construction, building the new facility themselves. The building was dedicated "to the Glory of God" by those who called Southern Lakes Church home. The first service in the new building was held on Easter in 2000.

By 2006 the church once again needed additional space and completed Phase II, expanding the auditorium and adding classroom space. Over the years additional staff was hired; new missionaries were supported; and various ministries were expanded. In November of 2016, Senior Pastor Sean Sweetman concluded his ministry with SLC after serving for 16 years.

In November of 2018 Pastor Ken Brummel accepted the call to serve as Senior Pastor. The church is now writing the next chapter as it seeks to remain true to its mission of Loving God, Loving People, and Making Disciples. We believe the best is yet to come. All to the Glory of God!
